General Rules and Thursday's Assignment

If you don't currently have an "igoogle" account, set one up. Record your user name and password in a Word document and save it as Log_on_information; you'll need it before posting the blog.

We’ll be using this site for teacher-to-student communication as well as student-to-student communication. My goal is to do at least one blog post per week. Generally I will post on Monday and you have until Friday to complete the weekly blog by leaving a comment. Many of you may have your own personal blogs on MySpace or similar sites. For those of you who have never used a blog, this will give you some experience. Before we get started we’ll have to set some ground rules.

First of all, all postings to this site must use school appropriate language. When you post, write in complete sentences. Key your first and last name at the end of your post so I know who's post it is. When commenting on another student’s post, keep your comments non-personal. You can agree or disagree with a comment but refrain from sarcasm and/or put-downs. State your position on the issue at hand and why you feel that way.Your first assignment: Who is your "hero" and what makes that person special to you?To complete this task just click the comment (one line down to the right).

Your first/second assignment: Who is your "hero" and what makes that person special to you? To complete this task just click the comment (one line down to the right - use your igoogle account in the drop down list).

  2. My hero is my grandma. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2003. She was a fighter and i saw the persistence she had, and she wanted to kick cancer to the curb, as she said. Unfortunatly she lost the battle in May of 2006. She showed me how strong to be even if you have a live or death situation, she never showed any weaknesses. She was my rock and helped me with things i could never share with anyone else. Tiffane Stone

  5. My hero is my Dad. He's always been there to provide for our family. He cooks, cleans, and works. Just about anything that needs to be done, he does it. No matter how much we argue and fight, he's always still there to help me when I need help. If I had six kids, I probably would have gone insane by now. I don't know how he does it, but he does.

  6. My hero is my sister. She is special to me because she is determined and hard working. She knows what she wants and how to accomplish it. She is successful at her job and pleasant around friends and family. I am honored to be her little sister and I aspire to be like her when I am older.

  7. My hero is my grandma. My grandma is my hero because she works harder then any person I know. She is in her sixties and still rides and trains horses and works on her farm with the horses everyday. She always does whatever she can to help people and to do the right thing. She is a huge inspiration and is my hero.

  8. my hero is my grandfather, he has always been my hero. He is very special too me in many ways. Ever since I was a baby I've been really close to him. I was always called "papaws girl", and sometimes I'm still called that. He was a strong spirited person. When he had cancer he did everything he could to fight it back. Until about one year ago he couldn't fight anymore. Just every little thing he did for me made him my hero. He has always been my hero and always will be.

  11. My hero is my Dad.He is my hero because he works very hard so that my family can have things that we don't necessarily need. For example around Christmas time my dad worked almost all day every day and even weekends so that my sister and I could have what we wanted for Christmas (laptops). There are so many times that he has done things that he didn't need to do just to make us happy. And I am very grateful to have a dad who loves me and does whatever he can to make me happy.
He is my true hero because he provides everything that my family wants and needs to have a happy life.

  23. Wow, many of you really have some interesting comments on your hero. Some have lost grandparents due to illness but what strikes me is the love you all have for family. You have learned the most important lesson; the importance of family. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say. Mrs. Lang

  28. Summary on technology article: Technology in education.
In this article it talks about all the harmful effects of using technology in the classrooms. They think that the children will become to Dependant on technology to learn on their own. Also they are afraid the children will find inappropriate materials while they are looking for other materials. Technology helps the teacher show more colorful and stimulating lectures but it allows children more access to other things.

  29. Technology in Education

Technology can both make getting an education easy and hard at the same time. Just think about the possible effects of using technology in the classroom. Will children lose their ability to relate to other human beings? Will they become dependent on technology to learn? Or will it better their education by being able to have the information they need in a matter of seconds?
For example when people are texting their friends in school instead of paying attention to the class they are in that takes away for the knowledge that they could potentially be getting. However when you need to do a book report or have a project that you have been assigned instead of going to the library you could look it up on your computer in the comfort of your own home. There are many pros and cons when you are thinking about technology and how it affects your education and the education of others.

  30. Technology is the usage and knowledge of tools, techniques, craft, or systems. Technologies significantly affect human as well as other animal species ability to control and adapt to their natural environments. The human species' use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. Technology has affected society and its surroundings in a number of ways. In many societies, technology has helped develop more advanced economies and has allowed the rise of a leisure class.
Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of the Earth and its environment. Various implementations of technology influence the values of a society and new technology often raises new ethical questions. Examples include the rise of the notion of efficiency in terms of human productivity, a term originally applied only to machines, and the challenge of traditional norms.

  31. The article that I read was about Bluetooth Headsets and that they can Reduce Possible Health Risks in Your Lifestyle they reduce heath risks because holding a cell phone close to your head can give you brain tumors because of Electromagnetic radiation but the Bluetooth Headsets use new generation radio waves that they think wont give you cancers and disease.

  32. A new way to text seems to becoming more and more familiar lately. A new technology called mobile voice-recognition technology is now allowing people to speak their messages instead of type them. The handheld phones we have today with the small keyboards and terrible touch screens seem like they would be way easier to talk to then type on. This has began this new technology in which people will be safer when trying to text while drive or send large amounts of writing in just a matter of time.

  33. 4G Phone Networks Better than Broadband?

Clearwire is the only network with a 4G network out there. It is so fast that it is almost comparable to DSL and Cable Modems. It can download at 3Mpbs and 6Mpbs. They are currently offering it to 27 different companies. Many people are ditching the DSL and going to the 4G wireless. AT&T and Verizon Wireless will soon be cancelling their DSL and Modems to switch to the 4G networks. The 4G network looks to be a very good thing to have and will be cheap in some places. I think it would be a good thing to have.

  34. Summary of my Article: The Apple iPad: It’s just ahead of its time

In this article they are talking about how the iPad has more disappointments than just its name. It states that the iPad is missing a lot of features that other phones would more than likely have. One missing feature for instance is that it is missing a camera. Also a lot of people are saying it is way too overpriced when it is missing all of those features.
This article then talks about that we should assume it is a failure right away, that it is just a work in progress. This is the first generation of iPad created so it isn’t going to be perfect. Some people shouldn’t buy it before it even gets popular, since it is the first generation ever made it is going to have a few bugs. Just like the iPod. Many people may have bought the iPod the first time around, but each time they made another one, it got a lot better than the one previous. Now there are tons of iPods out there and many people own one.
The rest of the article talks about how Apple needs to get serious about their products. People say that Apple is trying to convince then that the iPad is better than a laptop computer, which isn’t true. Many people wish that Apple would get more serious about what we would need these iPad’s for not just adding applications we don’t necessarily need.

  35. Oregon Town uses geothermal energy to stay warm:

To keep warm in the cold winter days in Oregon Town, they have leaned toward a new way of doing that. They wanted to try to use geothermal energy, in hopes that the town will stay warmer over the cold winter. Geothermal energy is unknown in much of the country but accounts for 0.5 percent of the nation's energy production. t can be seen on a snowy day in a handful of Western towns like Klamath Falls. That's because hot rock is closer to the surface here, and comes with the water needed to bring the energy to the surface. Northern California is home to the world's largest geothermal power complex. The Geysers, 75 miles north of San Francisco, produces enough electricity for 750,000 homes.

  36. I read an article about the ipod touch. The newest iPod design is the iPod touch. A display screen covering most of the front of the iPod touch makes it resemble the iPhone. But the iPod touch doesn't have a virtual Click Wheel that appears on the screen. Instead, it uses the same multi-touch interface that the iPhone uses. You can navigate through music, videos and other files using your fingers and the touch-sensitive screen.
In this article, it summarized how the iPod touch measures up to the iPod classic and other versions of the iPod. It also examined the technology behind the multi-touch interface and the media player's technical specifications. It’s much more complex and intricate than most people would think.

  37. Technology Article
They have made a new battery that should be a big help in the car industry. This new battery can provide as much or more volts then the original car battery can. But this battery is supposed to be better for the economy. This project will provide the U.S. with $2.4 billion investment in battery manufacturing. There are many new things about this new batter that is in the process of being manufactured.
